Hiram Gonzalez-Ortiz, MD FACS  is a  general surgeon and bariatric specialist at WHS General Surgery.

 

Dr. Gonzalez-Ortiz was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He obtained his medical degree at Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico and then moved to Pittsburgh to complete his residency at UPMC Mercy and his fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Throughout his education he received multiple honors and awards including the Golden Scalpel Award and the Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Award, to name a few. 

 

He now lives in the Mon Valley with his wife, whom he met during residency, and was previously the Director of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital for several years. 

 

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, and playing chess.
