PLEASE NOTE: THE 2020 WHS CHARITY BALL HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Based on the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and Pennsylvania’s Governor, WHS is postponing our 2020 Charity Ball until further notice.
The event was scheduled to be held on March 28 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe. If you reserved a hotel room at the Hilton for that night, please call them directly at (724) 743-5000 to cancel.
We are doing our best to communicate the postponement via social media, US postal service and e-mail, but we encourage you to let others know.
The WHS Foundation staff and the Ball Committee have spent countless hours planning for a fantastic evening honoring Mary Jo Podgurski and celebrating all of you and our generous supporters throughout the year. We are so grateful to everyone who contributed to this event and supported our Teen Outreach Program.
Look for follow-up communication from the Foundation regarding future plans for the Charity Ball. Please direct all questions and concerns pertaining to the Charity Ball to the Foundation office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 724-223-3875.
Grab your bow ties and big hats as we celebrate in true Kentucky Derby fashion. “Jockeys & Juleps” will be held on Saturday, March 28 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe.
This year’s event will feature a sit-down dinner, auctions and bourbon tasting. We’ll present the 2020 Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski.
New this year! Taste of Derby Pre-Event Party – enjoy bourbon and moonshine samples from local distillers while listening to the Jakobs Ferry Stragglers! Pre-event guests receive a commemorative bottle of bourbon, specialty drinks and light hors d’oeuvres.
Black tie or Kentucky Derby attire is recommended. Sorelle Bridal salon in Washington is offering a discount on tuxedo rentals and gown purchases for the evening. They are located on 1855 West Chestnut Street, Washington (724-206-0791, sorellebridalsalon.com). Just mention the WHS Charity Ball to receive the discount. Thanks to Sorelle for their generosity!
The Hilton Garden Inn is offering a discounted rate to our guests- $99 for a standard room or $109 for Jr. Suite. Reservations can be made by calling 724-743-5000 and reference Washington Health System Ball or by visiting www.pittsburghsouthpointe.stayhgi.com and entering the group code of WHC.
The 2020 Charity Ball proceeds will benefit WHS Teen Outreach. Started in 1988 by Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski, the Teen Outreach oversees seven programs to empower young people. Dr. Podgurski and her team have presented sexuality education to over 250,000 young people! Through programs such as Educate Children for Health Outcomes (ECHO), Pregnant and Parenting Teens, Inside Out (a child abuse prevention program,) and Real Talk for Real Teens, over 15,000 teens have been trained as peer educators and over 10,000 young parents were mentored. The Washington County 15-17 year old teen pregnancy rate dropped from 39 out of 1,000 to 12 per 1,000 between 1989 and 2013. Your support of this year’s event will help WHS continue to offer these invaluable programs to our local teens and students.
