Requirements for Residency Program

To apply to UPMC Washington Family Medicine Residency Program, you must:

  • Applicants can be no more than 2 years post graduate
  • Have passing board scores on USMLE or COMLEX 1 and 2 with three or less attempts total (i.e. only one exam failure will be accepted)
  • Complete your application with the Association of American Medical Colleges
  • Forward your application to UPMC Washington electronically thru  Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
  • Hiring is contingent on passing Urine/Hair/Saliva specimen collection for drug screening purposes to determine the use of illicit drugs or the illicit use of prescribed medication
  • All employees must complete and pass background checks to include Federal, State, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse as required for licensure and employment
  • Acknowledge that you will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (as defined by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) as a condition of employment with UPMC Washington

IMG Requirements

To apply to UPMC Washington Family Medicine Residency Program, you must:

  • Applicants can be no more than 2 years post graduate

  • Complete your application with the Association of American Medical Colleges

  • Have six months U.S. clinical experience in a university or hospital residency, not an observership
  • We can employ those with a J-1 Visa
  • Hiring is contingent on passing Urine/Hair/Saliva specimen collection for drug screening purposes to determine the use of illicit drugs or the illicit use of prescribed medication
  • All employees must complete and pass background checks to include Federal, State, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse as required for licensure and employment
  • Acknowledge that you will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination (as defined by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) as a condition of employment with UPMC Washington

Interviews

Interviews are arranged by appointment. The day’s activities include a tour of the hospital, family medicine center, and housing.

Applicants have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a current resident as well as a faculty member.

The day concludes with a private discussion with the director. Overnight accommodations are provided at the hospital’s expense.
