Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month
September is known to be the National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Alcohol and drug addiction can happen to anyone at any point in their life. These are illnesses that can become serious, but with help people can overcome them and recover. If you find yourself or a family member in the position that your life or work are suffering because of alcohol or any substance, you may need help.
Did you know that there are different medications, resources like counselling and therapy that can be set up in order to help with addiction? Your family doctor can always help you answer any questions you have about alcohol or drug addiction and the recovery process. The Washington Health System works closely with a number of resources and centres that we can connect you with in the road to your recovery.
The Substance Abuse and Mental health Services Administration has a free, confidential National Helpline you can reach at www.samhsa.gov or 1-800-487-4889 for any assistance you may need. Often times, increased stress can lead to the increased use of alcohol or drugs. Don’t hesitate to contact your family doctor if you have any concerns or questions about addiction or recovery.
