About your job:
Director Patient Experience
How long have you been employed at WHS?
22 years
Was it always in the same department?
I have worked primarily as an RN in Surgical Services-PACU along with various other departments in the organization. Most recently I worked 3 years in Quality Management and the past year in Patient Experience.
What extra duties have you taken on during COVID 19 (if any)?
I have taken on many extra duties during COVID 19. All of our volunteer patient care advocates have been temporarily out of the hospital due to COVID 19 and I assumed as many of the roles they had as I could.
One of the biggest was managing our Clothes Closet, which provides clothing to patients who come into the hospital without any clothing to leave in. We normally go through about 300 items a year: sweat pants, sweat shirts and t shirts. In the past two months we have donated 184 items to our patients in order for them to leave the hospital with clothing, comfort and dignity.
Education:
Trinity High School
Waynesburg College RN BSN
Hobbies outside of work:
I am constantly doing something outside of work, not sure if it is considered hobbies! Home remodeling has become my biggest hobby out of necessity! We have a small farm and raise animals. My sister, daughter and I are bee keepers. I enjoy gardening, canning, hunting and woodworking. My family and I do a lot of things to ensure we have a healthy environment to live in.
Family, pets, etc?
We currently have fewer pets than we usually do, since I was able to retire from being a 4H mom recently! We have a horse, pony, donkey, one dog, one cat, three pigs and a brand new kitten who is wreaking havoc at our house!
What is your ice cream flavor?
Butter Pecan!
What does your ideal vacation look like?
Sitting on my porch with my family.
Tell us what you love about your kid(s)/family.
Their strength, my children have had to endure a lot of hardship in their lives and their strength amazes me. It is what has kept me going through the difficult times we have had.
What skill or talent do you wish you had?
Singing! I practice in the shower!
What do you do on a typical work day?
My typical work day revolves around anything that has to do with providing our patients the best experience it can be. From monitoring and improving our patient satisfaction surveys, to handling complaints and grievances, to making sure a patient has what they need to leave the organization. I wear a lot of different hats in the day, every day is different and the day guides my tasks.
What do you want to tell people, or want them to know, about the COVID-19 pandemic and/or about WHS?
I want our community to know they are safe in our healthcare settings and to please not delay seeking medical attention due to fears related to COVID 19. I am so proud of our organization and the steps we have taken to ensure our patients safety. I want patients to feel safe coming in knowing that we are taking every effort to provide safe, quality patient care in these uncertain times.
