UPMC Washington School of Nursing presently provides a 16-month nursing program of study (20 months including pre-requisite courses) leading to a diploma. The school is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Founded in 1897, the school proudly claims over 4,000 alumni and a reputation for a quality nursing program. Students accepted into the nursing program will have completed 4 prerequisite college courses in general education, arts, and sciences. From this foundation, students will apply the knowledge acquired in their nursing courses.

School Purpose

UPMC Washington School of Nursing offers a 16-month RN Diploma program in professional nursing. The school assures the quality of its program by maintaining qualified faculty, providing support services which meet the needs of the student population, providing resources and facilities which are adequate for operation of the school, and offering a curriculum which enables its graduates to develop competencies necessary for the practice of professional nursing.

Application

Applications are currently being accepted for the following cohort:

  • May 2025 Cohort (Class of August 2026)   Application Deadline: January 2, 2025
  1. All pre-requisite courses must be COMPLETED with an achievement of a “C” (2.0) or better.

*Pre-requisite college credits include:

    • Anatomy and Physiology I with lab
    • Anatomy and Physiology II with lab
    • English Composition
    • Developmental Psychology

NOTE: Starting with the January 2022 Cohort, all non-science college credit courses must have been completed within 10 years of program start.  Science credits must have been completed within 5 years of program start and be from the same school.

  1. A minimum Academic Preparedness Level of Proficiency of 66% on the ATI TEAS Pre-entrance Assessment is REQUIRED.
  2. All integrated courses that are submitted for review for transfer must be COMPLETED with an achievement of “C” (2.0) or better. Integrated transfer courses must be completed prior to the start of classes in order to be transferred in. If students do not complete the integrated courses ahead of the beginning of the nursing courses, students are required to complete them with our affiliation through affiliation through Portage Learning/Geneva College during their time in the nursing courses.

    • General Psychology
    • Introduction to Sociology
    • Essentials in Nutrition
    • Introduction to Ethics
