WASHINGTON, Pa. – UPMC recently announced the expanded presence of UPMC Magee-Womens at UPMC Washington, marking a major milestone in women’s health care for Washington County and surrounding communities.
The announcement was made during a media event at UPMC Washington featuring remarks from Brook Ward, president of UPMC Washington and UPMC Greene; Joel Yuhas, executive vice president of UPMC and president of the UPMC Health Services Division; and Annmarie Lyons, vice president of UPMC Women’s Health Service Line.
“This is more than an expansion, it’s a promise kept,” Ward said. “We told our community we would bring UPMC’s signature services here, and today, UPMC Magee-Womens becomes part of Washington’s story.”
This announcement is one of many ways UPMC is fulfilling the commitment made on June 1, 2024, when Washington Health System became UPMC. UPMC has pledged $300 million over 10 years to enhance clinical services and upgrade facilities at UPMC Washington, UPMC Greene, and outpatient centers. Adding UPMC Magee-Womens strengthens UPMC Washington as a hub for advanced care, alongside UPMC Children’s, UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute, UPMC Orthopaedic Institute and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

UPMC Magee-Womens brings nationally recognized expertise to Washington County, consistently ranked among the top hospitals in the U.S. for women’s health and home to one of the largest obstetrics programs in the country. This expansion means families now have local access to advanced services such as gynecologic oncology, minimally invasive surgery and maternal-fetal medicine — care that previously required travel to Pittsburgh.
The integration of Magee’s clinical expertise with local teams ensures a coordinated, patient-first approach while preserving trusted relationships. Clinicians will benefit from advanced protocols and resources that empower them to care for women through every stage of life. For the community, this investment translates to improved outcomes, reduced travel burdens and care that reflects the unique health needs of Washington County.

Following the announcement, attendees toured the inpatient women’s care unit and enjoyed a photo opportunity with newborns dressed in celebratory onesies.
