The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) recognized WHS in its 2023 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program. The recognition honors Pennsylvania’s top-performing hospitals that have demonstrated low rates of health care-associated infections.

“We are pleased that our commitment to exceptional patient care and safety has been acknowledged by the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania,” said Dr. John Six, Vice President of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer at WHS.This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our WHS care team and Infection Prevention and Control team members, Tracy Stieglitz, RN, Ellen Heckman, RN, and Kim Bruce.  The tireless efforts of every WHS team member are instrumental in maintaining the safety and well-being of our patients. Being recognized for outstanding performance in patient safety underscores the daily diligence put forth to ensure that each patient departs from our hospital feeling significantly improved. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who contribute to this noble cause.”

HAP has recognized 29 hospitals this year based on their performance during 2022. HAP identifies top-performing hospitals using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network. To be recognized, hospitals must perform better than the mean standardized infection ratio in three key measures: central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and Clostridioides difficile infections.

“HAP is proud to recognize the hospital teams with exemplary results from their efforts to continuously improve the quality and safety of patient care,” HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings said. “This year, more hospitals met the criteria to be recognized than any other year since this program began. This speaks to the Pennsylvania hospital community’s strong commitment to patient safety.”
