November’s Diabetes Awareness Month marked a major milestone for individuals living with diabetes in Washington County. The Washington Health System Foundation (WHSF), in partnership with the Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF), announced the launch of a free Diabetes Toolkit Program at the Wilfred R. Cameron Wellness Center beginning January 2026. Made possible through a generous grant from Mrs. Nan Cameron, the program will offer community members practical tools, education, and support to better manage their condition.
“This program is a testament to what can happen when community organizations work together with a common purpose,” said Sara Schumacher, WHSF Executive Director.
Participants will attend monthly sessions and receive items such as measuring cups, portion-control tools, and other resources to build a personal “diabetes toolbox.” A multidisciplinary team including physicians, specialists, pharmacists, social workers, and diabetes educators, will lead educational sessions aimed at reducing complications, emergency visits, and hospitalizations, helping families stay healthier and more independent.
